Central
California, CA – January is Donor Appreciation Month at the Central California
Blood Center.
As a thank you, those who give blood at one of the five Donor
Centers in Fresno, Visalia or Porterville – from now until Saturday, January 30 –
will
receive a special gift, to show our appreciation. Reward offers may
vary depending on time of month.
“It is with the
help of these great many generous donors that we are able to supply
area hospitals with a consistent and safe blood supply,” said Chris Sorensen, Director of Community Relations and
Development. “Keeping the blood supply strong is no small feat. We
just hope that each of our heartfelt thank you’s will encourage
donors to keep giving, saving lives and underline how much they are
needed and appreciated,” adds Sorensen.
The
Blood Center also uses January, especially, as
a month to hopefully help increase the numbers of mobile drives by
encouraging businesses, groups and organizations to request a
bloodmobile visit.
Blood donors
must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with written parental
consent), weigh a minimum of 110 lbs. and be in good general health.
Be sure to drink plenty of water and eat a good meal prior to
donation. Photo ID and
Social Security Number are required at donor registration.
Seniors are encouraged to donate,
as there is no upper age limit for blood donation.
The
Central
California
Blood
Center is the sole provider of blood
and blood products for the 31 hospitals in
Fresno,
Tulare,
Madera, Kings and Mariposa counties and must
collect at least 5,000 to 6,000 pints of blood each month to meet
the needs of patients in Valley hospitals.
