CENTRAL VALLEY, CA -
For the seventh
year in a row, hundreds and hundreds of generous
donors rode over to the Central California Blood
Center’s Rodeo Blood Drive to help Valley
patients get back in the saddle again. This
year, 1,013 people registered to give blood at
one of five locations around the Central
Valley. Many dropped by the Clovis Rodeo
Grounds where they had a chance to chat with
champion cowboys – including barrelman Flint
Rasmussen and bullfighters Joe Baumgartner and
Shorty Gorham – and rub shoulders with rodeo
royalty.
However, for
those who could not make it out to the Clovis
Rodeo Grounds, the four Central California Blood
Center locations around the Valley were also
open. Donors who stopped by to give blood
received special prizes – plus there were also
Rodeo performance discounts and delicious treats
for every donor. In addition, all donors at all
locations were automatically entered to win
tickets to the June 13 Keith Urban concert at
the Save Mart Center at Fresno State.
Also, on
Thursday, KISS Country’s morning show host, John
Garabo, celebrated his 7th KISS
Anniversary show at the Clovis Rodeo Grounds,
with co-host Jodie Jo.
Blood donation
takes less than one hour to complete. Donors
must be in good general health, weigh a minimum
of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old.
Senior citizens are encouraged to donate, as
there is no upper age limit. Donors should eat a
good meal and drink plenty of water within 4
hours prior to donation. Donors can give blood
every eight weeks. Photo ID and Social
Security Number are required at donor
registration.
The Central
California Blood Center is the sole provider of
blood and blood products for the 31 hospitals in
Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Kings and Mariposa
Counties and must collect between 5,000 to 6,000
pints of blood a month to meet the needs of our
Valley community. |
