FRESNO, CA –
Fresno
State Softball Head Coach Margie Wright is once
again partnering with the Central California
Blood Center to help build a life-saving team.
“On this team, everyone’s a winner because
everyone saves a life,” states Margie. “I
challenge the community to step-up-to-the-plate;
join the ‘Donor Team’ and give blood at the
Fresno State Softball - Jenny Eller Blood Drive
Challenge.” This year, our goal is to, again,
bring in over a 1,000 new, and returning,
donors.
Beginning
Monday, March 17 through Saturday, April 19,
donors who visit any of the four Central
California Blood Centers and mention the ‘Donor
Team’, Coach Wright, Jenny Eller or Fresno State
softball at the time of donation, will receive a
commemorative 2008 softball T-shirt. Donor
rewards also include a discount ticket voucher
for a Fresno State softball home game this
season, plus a variety of special reward coupons
from Valley businesses for dining, recreation,
entertainment and services. Whether you are a
‘rookie’ or a ‘seasoned player’ there is a place
on this lifesaving team for you!
The 8th
Annual Jenny Eller Blood Drive Challenge honors
the memory of Jenny Eller, a softball standout
who knew first hand about the need for blood.
“Due to leukemia, Jenny never had a chance to
live life or play ball to her full potential,”
stated Dean Eller, Jenny’s father, President and
CEO of the Central California Blood Center.
“Jenny quickly transformed a passion for sports
into a passion for saving lives. Her
determination to fight and live was an
inspiration and remains so. After almost four
years, she lost her courageous battle with the
disease, but her spirit and energy live on in
many ways. Please help. Join Margie’s team and
let’s save lives.”
Blood donation
takes less than one hour to complete. Donors
must be in good general health, weigh a minimum
of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old.
Senior citizens are encouraged to donate, as
there is no upper age limit. Donors should eat a
good meal and drink plenty of water within 4
hours prior to their donation. Donors can give
blood every eight weeks. Photo ID and Social
Security Number are required at donor
registration.
The Central
California Blood Center is the sole provider of
blood and blood products for the 31 hospitals in
Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Kings and Mariposa
Counties and must collect between 5,000 to 6,000
pints of blood a month to meet the needs of our
Valley community.
