CENTRAL VALLEY ,
CA – St. Patrick’s Day is known for the wearing
of the green, but this year, start a new
tradition, by giving the “gift of life.” From
8:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 17, come
into a Central California Blood Center near you
and give blood. Each donor will receive a
free St. Patrick’s Day pin (while supplies
last), which they can then wear all day, plus
a variety of discounts from Valley
businesses for dining, recreation,
entertainment, and services.
“Thanks to
Valley residents and their support, blood
donations have been steady, but the need in area
hospitals continues to rise,” states Chris
Sorensen, Director of Community Relations and
Development for the Central California Blood
Center. “We need not only our regular donors to
please give, and regularly, but additional
first-time donors to consider giving, as well.
Patients in Valley hospitals need all of us.”
Blood donation
takes less than one hour to complete. Donors
must be in good general health, weigh a minimum
of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old.
Senior citizens are encouraged to donate, as
there is no upper age limit. Donors should eat a
good meal and drink plenty of water within 4
hours prior to their donation. Donors can give
blood every eight weeks. Photo ID and Social
Security Number are required at donor
registration.
The Central
California Blood Center is the sole provider of
blood and blood products for the 31 hospitals in
Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Kings and Mariposa
Counties and must collect between 5,000 to 6,000
pints of blood a month to meet the needs of our
Valley community.
